How were those weekends? (Yea, I've been working on this post for so long that I still intend to ask about your weekends even though we are almost at the next one!) Marvelous, I hope. Mine was essentially Fall perfection wrapped in ribbon with a bow and cherry on top. Ya folks, it was that good. If you were watching a romantic comedy set in Autumn, you could basically have been watching my weekend. But replace the handsome dude with some seriously rocking girlfriends and voila. There was celebratory margaritas, brunching, mimosas, drives into the country, apple picking, laughing at our apple-failures, wine tasting, views of vineyards, more wine-induced giggling, hay rides, pumpkin picking, lots and lots of apple cider and a haunted corn maize. Does it get any better than that? <b>I vote no. </b><br />
<br />
As I am writing this and reflecting not only on last weekend which I considered perfection (minus the horrifying Nationals loss) but also on all of my recent "perfect" weekends and adventures, I realize that they have one very important thread in common: <b>my roommate. </b>Folks, if you're not into sentimental girlyness, tune out now, because oh its coming. My wonderful roommate married the man of her dreams this summer, and they have unfortunately had to live apart for many months due to his military training. In December they will finally get to move in together. Though I am incredibly happy for my friends, I am selfishly very sad to be losing the best roommate I could have ever asked for; she's the most amazing running buddy, the best cook, the most fun person to stay up late watching movies with, the girl who makes me laugh like a hyena, my "person", the roommate who does unexpected sweet things like make my coffee in the morning or leaving me a piece of turkey bacon cooked exactly the way I like it (and I am so picky on turkey bacon), the one who "gets me" better than anyone, and the girl who somewhere along the way seamlessly became family. If you're a How I Met Your Mother fan, <b>she's the Marshall to my Ted, </b>though I can't say we've ever dueled with swords over our apartment before. Possibly because its a crap hole and neither of us wants it. Anyways, back to singing her praises.Sam, if you see this I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the last 4 years. Our memories in Paris (so, tell me about your life) and after will forever be some of my favorites of my entire life. And though I know it will be different not seeing each other every day and laughing over our crazy antics I don't doubt for one second that we will be any less important to each other. Whether you're next door or across the country, <b>you'll be my family forever</b> and we'll always make time for family :) I can't wait to come visit you in good ole <b>Texas</b> and hopefully find the perfect pair of cowboy boots!! <br />

It's a delightfully muggy one over here in isn't-it-october-sville.Seriously, the weather needs to quit playing games with my heart (ah, the classically subtle Backstreet Boys reference) because I don't know how much more I can take. Perfect 65 degree days with a breeze one day, humid rain the next and then somehow we make our way to 80+ like today. <i>What??</i> It's <i>October</i> weather maker! Bring me my sweater and boots weather pronto! <br />
<br />
It seems the evidence (aka my Pinterest obsessions) indicates that I am having a major love affair with pants this Fall. Whether they be of the skinny or boyfriend, denim or colored varieties, I like them all, which is actually a bit surprising. Now don't get me wrong, I have always loved me some jeans. But I tend to gravitate towards overly feminine options, like skirts and tights and dresses. And I obviously haven't left behind that feminine style (see pins 3 and 6, por favor) but it is clear that I am expanding my definition of softly feminine to include items with leg holes. Of course it helps that these lovely pants are paired with girly colors (pink plaid anyone), statement baubles, killer heels, French-inspired sweaters and sequins and sparkle. So here I have just a few of the images that are making my morning dressing decisions that much easier. Honestly, what did we ever do without Pinterest, or <i>GASP, </i>the Internet?? <br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">We all know how much I love my military vest (in fact <a href="http://alamodeetplus.blogspot.com/2012/09/back-to-campus.html">this</a> outfit was inspired by this photo) so naturally I'm a fan of this plaid/ military/ripped jeans totaling a mountain girl wears pearls look! </td></tr>

Did you all have a happy and productive Monday? I coasted through on leftover weekend-goodness fumes, and let me tell you the weekend was so blissful that there was enough goodness to make it feel almost as nice as a Thursday. I skipped town on Saturday and headed straight for the mountains with two of my best girls for a very short camping trip and had the time of my life. We turned it into a very lazy drive, stopping for all the cooking essentials and to take photos a long Skyline Drive. Then there was the girl talk and oh was it heavenly. Sometimes there is no better medicine than sitting around a fire, giggling like buffoons, sharing the things you can only tell those people you trust with everything you have and knowing that there is no judgment and only love pouring out for you. As corny as it may sound, it was a magical weekend, and I hope we all get to do it again very soon.<br />
<br />
Life has slowed down enough lately that I'm able to indulge in such simple pleasures as reading, lazy dinners and drinks out with roommate and plenty of puppy cuddling. In case you are wondering puppy cuddling is all the more intoxicatingly cute when the puppy is wearing adorable football jerseys. And of course there was camping, which is a whole new meaning to the word slow and I think a large part of the reason I loved it so much. There is no rush to get anywhere or do anything and it seems like nothing could be more important than reveling in nature. And that is a sentiment that I fully endorse.<br />

Bon matin mes jolies! Ca va? Je vais bien, merci. Ok, I promise that concludes the French speaking portion of our morning. I was thinking the other day how often I greet you all in my made up languages/accents and how rarely I use the language I actually know. So I decided to say top o' the morning to you lassies in my beloved (wish it was my native) tongue, French. Of course, I'm too lazy to look up the codes for all the proper accent marks, so just pretend that my written French is belle, s'il vous plait. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So as I've been getting back into a regular blogging routine I've been thinking about what I want this blog to be, and what I don't want it to be. I still want it to be a lifestyle blog (I've never considered it a fashion blog because the writing is rarely about the clothes) and a personal style blog, but I don't want every post to be an outfit post. I definitely want to continue with the Insta-life posts when I actually have interesting Instagram snaps to show you, as well as posts with photos from my everyday life, so it serves as a chronicle of this period in my life. But I'd love to get your opinions as well. <b>What would you like to see more of? </b><br />

Did anyone else <i>hate </i>those two cliches as much as I did as a child?? So annoying. Anywho, I'd love to hear what you loverlies are craving this fall? Have you given in to any yet? What tempts you the most?<br />

I have been in such a domestic mood lately. Cooking homemade soups, baking and wanting to experiment in the kitchen allll the time. It's not exactly the best news for my waistline, but it sure is yummy for my tummy. Ugh, is that not the worst phrase you've ever heard? Sometimes I wonder if I write this blog in order to rid myself of all the corny, cliche over the top ideas in my head so I can make room for the good sentences when I'm at work. Interesting thought, huh?<br />
<br />
So big news in my life. I mean <i>monumental</i>. For months now roommate and I have been watching LOST. Neither of us had ever seen any episodes and her husband loves the show. He was visiting one weekend so we started from the beginning. We agreed to only watch it when we were together, so naturally it took quite awhile to get through. As of last week, we are FINISHED! I was almost nervous for the show to end because so many people were unhappy with the ending, but roommate and I were both very happy with it. And the best part is now I have my life back!! I know that sounds kind of crazy, but before we were so eager to know what happened in the show that whenever we had spare moments it seemed a given that we were going to watch LOST. Now when we have free moments they are free again and we get to fill them with whatever. Sometimes that it is movies (watching the Vow right now and wanting to bawl my eyes out) or cooking dinner or long walks with Eli. And they are glorious free moments.<br />

But it wasn't boots season, so when I was cleaning out my closet and realized I had the perfect old black sweater that I never wore anymore, I snipped those sleeves right off and scurried off to don my boots. I adore the look of "socks" peeking out of boots, but hate the bunchy in my boots feel. Problem solved. Plus, we all know I love love love the black/brown combo! </td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Confession: This is the first time I have worn this Missoni for Target dress. <i>Ever. </i>And I bought it ages ago when the line came out. I bought it in haste without a trip to the dressing room, and it has always been just the tiniest bit snug around my belly. Since that is a "self conscious" area anyways, I never want to wear ill-fitting garments that highlight my troublesome areas or make me feel bad about my body. Fashion is meant to be fun and uplifting. So I decided the best way to hide that factor of the dress was to use it as an under layer. Enter my favorite denim shirt dress that is missing a button and can't be worn on its own until my lazy butt fixes it. And a perfect layered chilly day outfit is born! </td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">So guess what I learned? I have two very different size calves, and my right calf has grown considerably since I last wore these boots :( I don't know if it is running or just general calf growth, but these boots used to always be nice and loose fitting without falling around my calves. The left is still perfect, but the right one was a little too tight for my taste. I hope they still fit over my skinny jeans! Anyone have tips for losing calf weight?? Haha. </td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I've been experimenting with different makeup shades to go with my new do, and today I wanted to try a bit of a vampier look. I don't remember the name of the lipstick but it was a Clinique shade and I really loved it- definitely a great fall shade. It's more Burgundy than bright red, like my NARS Heat Wave or YSL Golden Cherry. </td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">In case you were wondering, this was a dad-approved outfit. He loves to offer commentary on my clothes (Have I ever told you about the time he kissed the top of my head as I was heading out on my first date and said, hmm well that smells..interesting? THANKS father for that round of paranoid insecurity) and thankfully, today was positive. He said he felt the layers were "fun" and the colors were just the "right amount." His suggestion was to "drape a scarf around my neck" but said "not with that necklace." I would have followed the advice had I not worn a scarf three days in a row already. P.S. You might start seeing more "dad style tips" as he liked the idea of being on the blog. </td></tr>

How's it hanging on your side of the mountain? We are light and breezy over here. Sorry, I was just getting my "Mountain Woman"on seeing as I'm going CAMPING this weekend!! I may be a wee bit over excited, but this will be my first legitimate camping trip since I was, oh 10. I did the whole girl scouts thing (running around begging people to buy my delicious cookies wasn't really my thing. Why sell them when you could be eating them? I swear I wasn't a fat kid.) but what they called "camping" usually involved cabins or, worse, hotels. I've never even pitched a tent before. Oh, and did I mention there will be river tubing? And s'mores? <i>S'mores </i>people. Shiz 'bout to get cray. So look out woods, because here comes one over-eager camper heading your way!!<br />
<br />
Last Thursday roommate and I were invited to check out a new salon in town, <a href="http://www.davidriossalonandspa.com/">The David Rios Salon & Spa</a>, and we had a bit of time to kill beforehand. I hate being the first to arrive to anything, and as we all know any soiree in DC is going to start fashionably late. We happened to be near one of our favorite places to indulge in our favorite fall treat - spiced chai lattes! - so grabbing one was a no-brainer. I was really in love with this sweater/jeans pairing (see captions below for five reasons I think this outfit rocks) so roommate was kind enough to snap a few pics for me while we waited.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">1. Pairing camel with jewel tones enriches both colors and allows them to really pop.</td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">So you may have noticed that I wore this exact jewelry combo in yesterday's post, but I can't help it: I am in love with my Lia Sophia pieces. No, this is not a sponsored post and these items are not c/o items, I just genuinely love them! The pattern, the colors, the fit-everything is just perfect. </td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">2. Pattern mixing is automatic win in any outfit, in my humble opinion. The snake print of the jeans looks almost small circles, which complements the larger polka dots of the sweater. </td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">3. Silky scarves are the perfect early fall (read: still slightly warm) accessory. They add a hint of elegance without making you overly warm. I like to make a scarf my only neck accessory, and eschew necklaces for bangles, watches and rings.This particular one was a gift (thanks Rachel!!) and I wear it any chance I can get. It is a beautiful white/cream in between color and thus goes with everything. Roommate loves it too, so it was really a double gift from Rachel :) </td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">4. Mixing brown and black is one of my favorite fashion rules to break, and I loved the mash-up of the camel sweater with the black accessories: polka dots, purse (actually my camera bag) and flats. </td></tr>

Good morning darlings! I hope you're feeling refreshed on this crisp Monday morning. I am not even remotely close to a fan of Mondays, but this weather makes me so giddy that I can almost forgive Monday for its horribleness. A cool breeze and the smell of fall in the air gets me feeling very generous and I start thinking how it isn't really Monday's fault that it has to follow behind the glorious Sunday and the all-star Saturday. I almost start to feel a bit sorry for poor Monday. <i>Almost. </i><br />
<i><br /></i>
Anyone have fun stories from the weekend? Keep em appropriate now, yall. If anyone went streaking this weekend I don't want to hear it. In fact, no one wants to hear it. I may have been on a college campus, living with messy college boys and attending frat-tastic parties (actually, they were athlete-tastic- much more my taste), but there was no streaking. Beer pong and the infamous chanting of "Keg stand, keg stand" (yours truly did <i>not </i>partake in the keg-standing) yes, but streaking no. How in the world did I even start talking about streaking? My brain is truly a mystery folks. I think the point of this whole story was I spent the weekend with my baby brother, who is clearly not a baby. I still cannot believe he is a college senior. I know this is a cliche older sibling thing to say, but it seems like he was just moving into his dorm yesterday. And now he is just 1.5 semesters away from being a college <i>graduate. </i>Sappy alert: I couldn't be more proud of the man he has become (actually, the man he has always been) and I am honored to call him my brother, my hero, my best friend. This year is going to mean big things for him, and I can't wait to watch his lifelong dream come true. Brother, you've worked your entire life to play professional baseball, and things are finally happening for you. No one deserves this to work more than you, and I can't wait to see it happen. Thanks for the awesome weekend, as usual and I'm so proud of you!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
In other very important news, I wore some clothes last week, and I thought they were kinda cute. </div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This morning was the first day that truly felt like fall at a brisk 67 degrees, so layers finally felt appropriate. This button down paired with the maxi dress was a go-to for me last year, so I decided to update the look with my new favorite vest. </td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The vest is quickly becoming the little vest that can as I wear it with everything! It is the easiest layering piece, and adds a fun new dimension to outfits. Although, I admit, sometimes it feels a little like a fishing vest. I ignore those thoughts though because I am deeply in love with little vest. </td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I very rarely am carrying a bag in any of my posts, but this little number was my first ever designer item I bought myself, and it has been a faithful little pal. Aloha kittens! So confession time: I am a liar. I told you I was done with the NYFW posts, but that was just not true. I just can't help myself- I have NYFW withdrawal. That, and I wanted to make sure you were as informed as possible about what you should be wearing this Spring and Summer (although judging by the last photo in this post that won't be including pants). You can take the girl away from fashion week, but you can't take fashion week out of the girl. So let's find out what you can expect come Spring!<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<img alt="Leather" src="http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j465/Alamodeetplus/ALaModeetPlus_zps23ac43bd.jpg" width="400" /><br />
<br />
We've seen leather all over the place this fall, particularly leather detailing, leather pants and leather pencil skirts. Leather won't be going anywhere for spring but we'll see it in more colors, flouncier skirts, sleeveless tops and even ombre moto jackets (photo from <a href="http://zimbio.com/">zimbio.com</a>) From: Nicole Miller, Walter Baker and Tibi.<br />
<br />
<img alt="Femininity" src="http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j465/Alamodeetplus/ALaModeetPlus4_zps8e4161ff.jpg" width="400" /><br />
<br />
Old Hollywood glamour will be in full swing this spring with feminine silhouettes, fabrics and patterns. Think pleats, peplums, florals, lace, pencil skirts and full coverage dresses. From: Jill Stuart, Oscar de la Renta and Rebecca Minkoff.<br />
<br />
<img alt="Crop Tops" src="http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j465/Alamodeetplus/ALaModeetPlus1_zpsb5fd3715.jpg" width="400" /><br />
<br />
Not really sure what I think of this crop top/bra top trend, but it definitely has a 90s vibe. I love the more subtle Rebecca Minkoff take on the trend, though. From Tibi, 3.1 Phillip Lim and Rebecca Minkoff.<br />
<br />
<img alt="Black & White" src="http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j465/Alamodeetplus/ALaModeetPlus3_zps40b2cc1f.jpg" width="400" /><br />
<br />
We are usually inundated with colors for spring, whether it is pastels or neons, but this spring we will be returning to the classic black and white palette. White House Black Market should be thanking their lucky stars. From Lela Rose, Alice + Olivia and Oscar de la Renta.<br />
<br />
<img alt="space age" src="http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j465/Alamodeetplus/ALaModeetPlus5_zps862d2754.jpg" width="400" /><br />
<br />
This year's runways were filled with out-of-this-world prints, metallic sheens and cuckoo headpieces. I have to say, I totally dig it. From Alexander Wang,Nicole Miller and 3.1 Phillip Lim.<br />
<br />
<img alt="Stripe on Stripe" src="http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j465/Alamodeetplus/ALaModeetPlus2_zps704b891f.jpg" width="400" /><br />
<br />
We are all familiar with trendy stripes, particularly on boat-neck tees, but this season we will be seeing plenty of stripe on stripe looks, so get to mixing those stripes babes! I am majorly obsessed with this first look and the last one reminds me so much of a <a href="http://alamodeetplus.blogspot.com/2010/09/sex-and-city-obsession.html">Carrie Bradshaw outfit</a>. From Thakoon Addition, Alice + Olivia and Michael Kors.<br />
<br />
And one trend I could do without...<br />
<img alt="Description of Photo" src="http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j465/Alamodeetplus/theyskenstheorynopants_zps6ad8e43a.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
...leaving the house without pants. Vag shots are not cool people. Ever. Keep the pants ON! From Theyskens' Theory.<br />
<br />
Of course we will still be seeing plenty of peplum, lace, printed pants and pattern mixing for Spring, so now is the time to pick up these longer-lasting trendy items. Alright loverlies, have terrific weekends and I'll see you around these parts on Monday. I'll be the one in clothes. </div>

Ahoy mateys! Remember that time many <a href="http://alamodeetplus.blogspot.com/2011/03/please-dont-go.html">moons ago</a> when I declared it to be International Talk Like a Pirate Day? Well, turns out that is a real thing, not something I made up (who knew) and tomorrow is actually Talk Like a Pirate Day. All I have to say is arrrgh, why is all the rum gone? Savvy? </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I don't have all that much to say today, but I wanted to pop in and give you a little peek into what has been going on dans ma vie lately. Isn't that what Instagram is for anyways? I've been doing so much traveling and after-work events lately that I've been trying to make the most of my time when I am just at home. That has involved some pampering (haircuts, self-manis, shopping), roommate time (we officially only have one LOST episode left) and appreciating all that my city has to give! Oh, and there has been plenty of puppy cuddling time thrown in there. And this weekend I'll be heading down to little old Williamsburg to get a little QT with the brother. That will probably involve a lot of Sports Center, lounging and maybe a party or two. I'm sure you'll see it all on Instagram anyways :) </div>

How are your Sundays going? Mine has been the perfect combo of lazy and worthwhile. On the lazy side, I woke up at 10, cuddled my pup and watched a lot of Netflix. But I also made homemade Parmesan garlic knots (yum!), picked up roommate from the airport (yay!!!) and got some blog work done (this post, duh). So really I'd call it a good day. Now if only my Skins could have pulled out a W for me :(<br />
<br />
My second, and last, day of NYFW brought me to three very different shows from the uber-feminine, glamorous Jill Stuart to the playful, goddess-inspired Son Jung Wan and the quirky, futuristic Rafael Cennamo. My fashion week began and ended on a presentation, which felt very congruent and wrapped everything up perfectly. The glass of champagne courtesy of Mr. Cennamo was the ideal way to celebrate the end of an incredible weekend.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
*I apologize, but my photos from this day are not the best. I'll be a lot better next fashion week!*</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
This show was a perfect start to my Saturday as it was filled with beautiful fabrics, feminine silhouettes and a muted color scheme. Imagine a lot of old-Hollywood glamour and an almost bedroom-esque feel. I adored the champagne belted trench above and the stunning gold sequin gown. The pale pinks were gorgeous as well, and though the collection exuded sexiness, it was definitely kept PG-13 to appeal to Stuart's audience. If Jill Stuart nailed neutrals, Son Jung Wan mastered electric colors, starting the show off on a bright yellow bang, and continuing with teals, purples and electric pinks. The Grecian gowns matched the goddess inspired hairstyles. The one thing that seemed out of place, though, was the three male looks scattered into the show. They felt basic when compared to her female looks, and the male vibe didn't feel fully developed. Wan seems to really have a knack for tasteful embellishments with her use of sequins, attache flowers and beading. See a highlight video <a href="http://www.mbfashionweek.com/designers/son_jung_wan">here</a>. All photos below are mine.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
My last show of #NYFW was the perfect ending to an out of this world weekend, with the minimalistic meets futuristic Japanese-inspired collection from Rafael Cennamo. The glam mood was set with the dimmed purple lighting and champagne being served, and the out-there models wore very structured gowns varying from red carpet worthy ball gowns to cocktail attire. I don't really think I'd ever have an opportunity to wear designs like these, but I was a bit taken with the snow princess-like ball gown above on the left. It was simply stunning. See a short video of the collection <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3m0dSUoeB8w">here</a>. All photos below are mine. </div>

<br />
Well this wraps up my NYFW coverage for now, and I feel so blessed to have experienced the whole thing. It was at times overwhelming, breathtaking and (excuse the corny cliche) an absolute dream come true. I have thought about being inside those tents for a long time now, and to have actually made it happen, well I can't ask for anything more, except maybe to be back in February :) Here's hoping!<br />

Top 'o the morning to you lassies (yes I know it is long past morning, but still such a fun phrase to say)! I hope you're all enjoying your weekends. It is fun to be here with you on a Saturday, since I never get that opportunity. But since my weekend consists of doing absolutely nothing, I decided I might as well post my recaps from Day 1 of fashion week. I'll have Day 2 for you tomorrow, and that will wrap up NYFW talk. I'm going to get right on in to the post today, because we have a lot of photos/text to cover with recaps from Walter Baker, Rebecca Minkoff and Nicole Miller.<br />

The Walter Baker presentation was my first NYFW experience, and I can honestly say I had no idea what to expect, and definitely no idea what I was doing. I had a press badge which got me into Lincoln Center, and then I just waited in standing room lines to try and get tickets to various shows I was interested in. I heard good buzz about the bright, fun collections Walter Baker usually presents so I knew immediately that I wanted to get in. I only had to wait about 15 minutes to get in, and I'm so glad I did (plus I get to <a href="http://alamodeetplus.blogspot.com/2012/09/nyfw-day-1.html">meet Katy</a> while I waited!) because the presentation was beautiful. What can you even say about a presentation that included parrot tuxedo pants and dip dyed motto jackets? The models lined up in a V shape and rocked out to the music through their Skullcandy headphones. The collection was filled with bright colors, tribal prints, colorblocking and tye-dye psychedelic maxis/hi lo dresses. While the left side of the V felt more business, the right side was very beachy/traveler-esque. The ombre blue jacket above was stunning, and I seriously want to get my hands on it. The <i>awesome </i>news is that this collection will be sold at Macy's! (all photos below are mine)<br />

Next up was the one show that I was dying to see. Rebecca Minkoff is by far one of my favorite designers, not only for her beautiful purses, but also for her down-to-earth personality (this <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5maGo_WEmI">video</a> anyone?) I had submitted entries to her Facebook and Twitter contests to try and win tickets, but with no luck. So after standing in line for 30 min and then being told no one was going to get in standing-only, I was devastated. But when 90% of the line left, a miracle happened and they let all of us still there IN! I was ecstatic as my neon-heel-clad feet raced their way on in to my first fashion week <i>show. </i>I was a little overwhelmed and maybe in a bit of shock as the lights finally dimmed and the first model stepped out on the runway. But I was hooked from the first look, which appeared to be a classy all-white ensemble with white flared denim pants and a boxy cut white button down. But on further inspection, the pants had an unexpected floral detailing along the hem and the top had a fun slit in the back, making for an updated sexier version of the white out look. The live performance-done by Tennis and DJ Cassidy was also amazing. The rest of the collection continued to impress with more floral details, delicate bird-printed silk blouses, structured lady-like bags, beautiful and bright blazers/coats and of course, the snake-printed overalls. I would totally love to rock that white and floral button down above and the checkered blazer. *TREND SPOTTING: Blazers with graphic tees and shorts will be huge next spring so get ready* (See full show <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87aMfSx_HqE&feature=player_embedded">here</a>. Last on the agenda for Day 1 (Friday) was Nicole Miller, which ended up being my favorite show of the weekend! I have long been a fan of Miller's sexy gowns and feminine vibe, but this collection really stepped it up a notch with its futuristic/ rave vibe. From the multi-colored hair do of the second model to the Men-In-Black inspired sunglasses, the show combined elegance with out of this world for a really fun collection. The clothes were splashed with acid colors and digital prints and plenty of trailing hems. The pieces all moved beautifully for a really ethereal look. According to the Washington Post, Miller was inspired by the "juxtaposition of improbable things" and that was predominant in the show. Leather is paired with feminine prints/colors, while girly florals are plastered on a skin-tight cocktail dress. It was far and away the best show I attended, and not to toot my own horn, but I think my photos turned out pretty decent, too. *TREND NOTE: Leather will not be going anywhere next year, so if you are thinking about investing in leather pieces, do it now.* (Full show <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wz_Kmc0uXqc">here</a>. Can I just take a really selfish moment and say how much I am loving my new hair?? Yes? Ok, sweet. I am loving my new hair! I was terrified to go short again (did it once in college and hated my hair and all pics of myself for months) but this cut is so.much.better! My wonderful stylist (Nuri Yurt at Toka Saloon- locals, go see him!) gave me the exact cut I was looking for -stylish but easy to maintain. The shape is flattering and I hardly have to do anything in the morning. I just dry, and it dries in 5 min versus 30, and go! It is awesome. Ok, enough rambling about my hair. Back to what truly matters: my clothes, obviously. <br />
<br />
I'm taking a quick break from fashion week shiznit (specific show reviews to come!) to bring you a quick outfit post. I was invited on Monday to come shop the brand new Nordstrom Rack in Tysons Corner (which opened today!) and enjoy a few nibbles and sips while doing so. And let me tell you friends, shopping with a glass of champagne in hand is the way to shop. I didn't think shopping could get any better, but it can c/o the bubbly. Roommate and I had such a fun time sampling all the finger food and delicious drinks while wandering through the racks of incredibly-priced garments. I was particularly impressed with their selection of leather (including jackets and skirts), oxblood items (an oxblood leather pencil skirt was screaming my name but unfortunately I didn't answer), work clothes and denim. The designer shoe section was packed with goodies, too. I was so tempted by a hot pink pair of Kate Spade peep-toes but I resisted. I was hoping to have seen more peplum items, but I only saw a few in the junior section and I wasn't liking the fabrics on either. They were cotton, and I'm hoping for a thicker fabric. Hopefully I'll find a peplum soon that I can add to my wardrobe. I did manage to pick up a pair of dark green printed jeans (um hello two trends in one) and possibly the most comfortable boat-neck tee ever made! Roommate also scored a bunch of work clothes including a classy white and black cardigan that I will definitely be borrowing! Thanks to the Tysons Corner 'Rack for having us out, and also to the very, very sweet/helpful sales staff you have on hand! I will definitely be returning. <br />

May I take your coats? Sorry, I felt like a butler there for a hot sec, but little ole me is back now. And you probably want to keep your coats because it finally feels like FALL!! Again sorry, but I get a wee bit excited over anything fall related, and when I stepped outside my door this morning and was greeted with chilly weather, my heart skipped a beat. I had been wishing for this day all summer long and it was finally here. Now fall, don't go breaking my achy breaky heart and disappear mysteriously on me. I need you to commit dude!<br />
<br />
Well, after a long and exhilarating day 1 of NYFW, I was back to Lincoln Center to do it all over again. Even though I only had one day under my belt, I definitely felt more confident making my way up those steps, flashing my press badge like a pro (Ya, I was here yesterday. You might remember me.) and heading straight for the standing room lines. Ah, the dream. To wait in a long line of other clamoring fashionistas who will stop at nothing to get in their favorite shows. I kid, because actually I met some really wonderful people in those lines and I'm not sure I would have even made it in to Nicole Miller (my fav show of the weekend) had it not been for a nice lady whose spot in line I saved and who then gave me her extra ticket! I loved using the line time to just people watch, instagram my fav ensembles and really take in the whole environment around me. And those lines brought me to Jill Stuart, Son Jung Wan and Rafael Cennamo.<br />

Bonjour loves! I hope you all had marvelous weekends! Mine felt like it was an entire week long (cue this scene from <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkVzspuCkxg">the Jerk</a>) and now I desperately need a weekend to recover from my weekend! But I'd feel like a cad complaining since I spent Friday and Saturday in New York and Sunday at the National Harbor rolling around in paint with my girlfriends and looking like <a href="http://distilleryimage11.s3.amazonaws.com/9de3685cfa9a11e1851d22000a1cf766_6.jpg">this.</a><br />
<br />
I have sooo many things to share with you from my first NYFW experience, but I will try not to overwhelm you with photos. This was my first time attending shows at fashion week, so naturally I took an abundance of pics. Being inside the Theater waiting for the Rebecca Minkoff show to start was such a surreal experience, and I just kept thinking, I cannot believe I am here, waiting to see one of my favorite designers present her collection <i>live. </i>I felt like a kid on Christmas all weekend. When those lights dimmed I could feel my heart racing with excitement. And then, in a blur, it was over- both the RM show and the entire weekend. It was a rush of beautiful fabrics, prints and models with a background of flashing lights that seemed like it was ending before it had even begun. But, the great thing is that fashion week happens twice a year, every year, so here's to hoping I'll be at even more shows come February with a little bit more knowledge under my belt! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
*I apologize now for the massive overload of photos, but it is really hard to narrow down 700+ photos!* </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Arriving at Lincoln Center after picking up my press badge. If you ever have a chance to experience Lincoln Center during NYFW, take it. It is a style-fest on steroids with chic on chic everywhere you look. Incredible. </td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">First NYFW experience was the W118 By Walter Baker presentation and I LOVED it! The clothes were bright, beach-sexy and fun. What is even better is that this collection will be coming to Macy's! </td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">And of course I had to give you a quick peek at what <i>I </i>wore :) My brand new Theory dress arrived just in time to make its debut at fashion week, and it is definitely going to be a fall staple. It is long enough and professional off to work in the office when combined with a blazer, but the leather top makes it trendy/sexy enough for post-work gatherings. I paired it with a fun Lia Sophia necklace, YSL Golden Cherry gloss and neon yellow pumps (not seen) from Shoemint for pops of color. And of course I couldn't forget my classic Michael Kors watch or Marc Jacobs sunnies. </td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Oh, did I mention I chopped off 10 inches of hair and got it colored for the first time? No? Well I did. And I absolutely LOVE it. It is effortless to style, drying only takes 10 minutes as opposed to 30 and the color is so fun! It was a little more red than I expected, but you know what they say? Aloha girlfriends! I hope you all had terrific Labor Day weekends! Any fun travels or chic soirees? I jetted away to the Florida Keys with my bestie, roommate and roommate's hubby. I apologize in advance for the ridiculously goofy photos that are to come in future posts! It was my first vacation in two years and the first time this group has all traveled together. Suffice it to say, photo documentation of every aspect of the trip occurred. Sorry, not sorry! </div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Alas, there is no rest for the weary (I know, you're feeling really sorry for my traveling self aren't you) over in this part of bloggyland, as I head out tomorrow night to NYC for FASHION WEEK! Woo! Well, for me it is more like fashion day and a half as I am only in town Friday and part of Saturday, but it is still my first time attending as an accredited member of the press and I am super syked. I don't have a concrete show schedule yet, but you can definitely expect photos and recap posts next week. Plus, I'll be meeting up with some of my dearest blog friends like <a href="http://mademoisellehannah.wordpress.com/">Hannah</a>, <a href="http://delayedmissives.com/">Alex</a> and <a href="http://starcrossedsmile.com/">Nnenna </a>so you know there will be photo shoots! And you can follow along with the fun on <a href="https://twitter.com/laurachanning">Twitter</a> or <a href="http://instagrid.me/laurachanning/">Instagram</a>! </div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">To me, fall officially starts after Labor Day, so yesterday was the first official day of Fall in my mind. The sweater is nice and light so it can be worn on these in-between days of September when it is still warm, but not unbearably hot. Plus, my office is always <i>freezing, </i>so sweaters work for me! </td></tr>

For some reason anytime I use the word greetings, even if I am just typing it (and let's be honest, when do I ever <i>say </i>the word greetings??) I have to say it in an alien voice. And then I start thinking all about UFOs and Area 51 and Outer Limits (yes, the roller coaster) and it becomes this whole alien affair. Yea, try living inside this head every day. It's a chore I tell you.<br />
<br />
Since you probably didn't come here to discuss extraterrestrial life forms I'm going to go ahead and skip ahead to the clothes. My next few weekends are kind of cray cray with all the (very fun) travel plans, running escapades and end of summer merriment, so tonight I took time to chill out with roommate and another friend. What better way to relax before a weekend of beach lounging (tough life, but someone has to do it) than by sipping margaritas and gossiping over tortilla chips? I swapped my work-appropriate pencil skirt for more fun boyfriend jeans and glammed it up with my favorite (and basically essential as of late) <b>Rebecca Minkoff </b>accessories. And then we marched ourselves right on over to Mexicali Blues for some girl talk, libations and nibbles. Perfect way to pass a Tuesday night if you ask me!<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I have always shied away from boyfriend jeans, fearing that they wouldn't be feminine enough for my taste. And what could possibly be more girly than a neon bag and strappy sandals! </td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I should probably tell you that I have been basically LIVING in these shoes since I snagged them at an unbelievable price from Bluefly. I get oodles of compliments, my feet have never felt sexier and the BEST part... they are comfortable. I know, shut up right? I am serious though. <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">P.S. Did I mention there's a sock in my hair? Yes, I am only about a bajillion years late to the sock bun party, but now I am kind of cool again because the trend seems to be slowing down, so I'm often the only one rocking it. Aka I'm a backwards hipster: I only jump on board once a trend is dead or dying... </td></tr>

It has been a good long while since I used that (my favorite) greeting and tonight seemed to be the perfect night to bust it out! If I'm being honest, which I am, I am a little stressed out today and want to surround my self with all manner of happy/uplifting/inspiring things. So on that note, we aren't going to dwell on the stress, but make our way right on over to the beautiful: aka my hot friends who I got to spend the weekend with.<br />
<br />
I already told you about how Pinterest planned my party for me this weekend, and how that was quite lovely. And I briefly alluded to the fact that the party involved the best people ever, but that needs to be elaborated on. You see,last year roommate and I decided to throw an end of summer party. Actually, I decided I needed a project to keep my mind off the fact that I was unemployed (slash procrastinate my much-needed job searching) and roommate indulged me. It ended up being this crazy mix of DC/college/high school/friends-of-friends crowd. And it <i>rocked. Hard. </i>Or at least we thought it rocked hard. So we decided to make it a tradition and go for round two! We wound up, again, with a mix of friends (albeit different faces for the most part) and it still rocked. We had a pretty sweet food spread from chocolate covered strawberries to guacamole, funfetti dip, pesto tortellinis and various Mexican/cheese dips that my amazing guests brought with them. And then there were the drinks. I think my brother said it best when he said "Everything I'm drinking is pink. And I love it." Ok, so maybe he didn't say the second part (it was more like I need a beer) but I like to pretend he loved it. We served strawberry basil margaritas, strawberry lemonade Popsicles and <a href="http://www.thatssomichelle.com/2011/05/fancy-pink-lemonade-jello-shots.html">pink lemonade jello shots</a>. Pretty floral arrangements were tucked in lemon-filled vases, and dips were served in flower pots to set the summer mood. And it was 50 shades of lovely (IMHO), but nothing compared to the company. All night long I had a goofy grin on my face (ok, so the margaritas <i>might </i>have had something to do with that), because i just couldn't get over the fact that I was surrounded by the most caring, wonderful, hilarious friends a girl could ever dream of. And I had them all in one room, mingling and getting along. It was heaven. They came from all over to spend one last night together before everyone goes their separate ways (back to school/jobs out of state) and it made me realize that for all my worrying about moving somewhere else, I know that no matter where my career takes me, this incredible group of friends I have formed will be there for me through it all. Whether it is my brother/best friend sending me a thoughtful text when he knows I need a pick-up, my like-family roommate calling on her drive home from work to catch up or any one of "the bros" posting some ridiculous and probably only funny to us comment on my Facebook, I know these people are my rock-solid foundation. They are the friendships that outlast everything, and can be picked up from where you left off without any awkwardness. They are once-in-a-lifetime finds and I am beyond blessed to have them in my life. And this post just got real serious, real fast. Sorry, not sorry because it needed to be said. So to all of you who made my Saturday night so memorable (and to those of you who couldn't make it but I know you wanted to) I thank you for giving me another summer of unforgettable memories. I love you all more than I could ever express!<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
*excuse the picture overload, but like I said, my friends are hot and they deserve their five minutes of fame. yes I just elevated being on my blog to fame status. deal with it.*

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">So this was my <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/123708320985266850/">pinterest-inspired hair</a> pre-party. <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My gorgeous roommate et moi. I say it every time, but I love this girl to death. I am starting to get all girly and emotional about the fact that she moves in about 5 months. I will miss her so much. BUT you can be darn sure we will make the most of our remaining roommate time. P.S. Note the lack of curls. This was about 10 min into the party :( </td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Roommate took pity on poor little Eli who was overwhelmed by the party-goers. He kept following me around, and roommate gave into his whimpering and cradled him like a baby for about an hour, before we decided it was Eli bedtime. I swear, we treat him way more like a child than we should. He probably has a doggie complex. </td></tr>

I believe in you 100% and I just know that your senior year is going to be your best yet. <div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
So I realize that these pics are probably not remotely interesting to anyone but myself, but sometimes you just need to share little tidbits of your life, so that you can have a visual memory years later. After all, isn't that why we all started lifestyle blogs in the first place?<br />

How was everybody's weekends? Mine was perfection. That's right, perfection! I got to spend Friday with my two favorite guys and watch the Nats kick some serious Mets butt. And who doesn't like that?? And then I stayed up silly late (2 am) getting ready for my annual end of summer bash; which is why my weekend gets elevated to perfection status. Saturday night was the most wonderful evening with (almost) all my favorite people! I had Elon loves, my bros, and roommate and her hubby. Life really doesn't get much better than that.<br />
<br />
So does anyone remember that time <a href="http://alamodeetplus.blogspot.com/2011/05/wishing-and-hoping-planning-and.html">waaaaaay back</a> when I said Pinterest had basically planned my wedding for me? Well, the little website that could seems to have done it again. This time I actually used it to plan a (gasp) real event, unlike my pretend wedding. And plan it well it did! I've never put to use quite so many of my "pins" in one occasion. From the <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/123708320985228192/">menu</a> to the <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/123708320984735156/">decor</a>, <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/123708320984469649/">drinks</a> and <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/123708320985014340/">setting the mood</a>, Pinterest was there to see me through the whole planning process. We even had fun <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/123708320985267132/">jello shots</a> (thanks <a href="http://www.thatssomichelle.com/">Michelle</a>!) and <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/123708320983813814/">cute popsicles</a>. I got so many compliments on the party, and it almost felt wrong to accept them. I felt like I was stealing all of my dear little Pinterest's glory. So, here's to you Pinterest. I tip my hat to you for making me look like a better hostess. You really know how to help me throw one kick butt party! Much love, doll.<br />

Happy Friday! My favorite day of the week. Actually, that is a bold face lie, especially considering I told you just last post that Sundays were my favorites. Friday is definitely up there on the list of favorites, but Sunday is more favorite (<i>name that line. go)</i>. Let's not mention this little white lie to Friday, though. He and I have hit a rough patch, and I just don't need any more Friday drama. I know I can count on yall!<br />
<br />
This week was one of the most insanely busy weeks I've had in a long time, but it was filled with all fun post-work events so I really can't complain! Wednesday night, I dressed myself up in my newest fancy dress, favorite gold heels and lots of gold accessories, and marched my behind right on over to the Neiman Marcus <b>CapFABB</b> get together! Well, first I picked Rachel up at the metro, and then we marched on over. Tandem marching is really the only way to go. Per usual, the CapFABB girls put together a first-class all the way evening, complete with munchies, champagne, baubles to play with, a fashion contest and oodles of outfit inspiration from all the District fashionistas! This was one of my personal <a href="http://districtsparkle.com/">favorite looks</a>, as it could so easily be transitioned straight into fall. We got to browse all the hottest trends for fall, including my new obsession: leather. Leather pants, leather skirts, leather accented jackets, leather <i>everything</i> is what fall will bring and I can't wait! Good thing I scored <a href="http://instagrid.me/laurachanning/">this</a> awesome Alice+Olivia camel leather mini at Secondi, one of the best vintage stores in DC. Along with leather, I can't wait to see shades of green everywhere, structured oxblood handbags and funky brooches. That last one is something I've never given any thought to, but they are going to be huge this Fall and I can't wait to raid my mother's stunning vintage collection! I'm still up in the air on how I feel about smoking slippers, and the continuation of menswear inspired clothing. I guess we'll just have to see how it plays out!<br />

My favorite day of the week. I can lay around and do nothing, stay in my PJs way past the socially acceptable hour and not feel one iota of guilt.<br />
<br />
So, confession time (have you been missing my <a href="http://alamodeetplus.blogspot.com/2011/01/case-of-missing-date-night.html">myriads</a> <a href="http://alamodeetplus.blogspot.com/2011/04/my-shadow.html">of</a> <a href="http://alamodeetplus.blogspot.com/2010/10/tie-it-on.html">confessions</a>?? I thought so) ladies. I have a new addiction, and I don't even want to try and break it. We all know that I've been hopelessly addicted to shoes since, well, forever. But now we have to add another one to the list: colored jeans. Yep. I'm on board the can't-get-enough-colored-denim train and it makes me wonder <i>why </i>I haven't hitched a ride sooner. Now, I really shouldn't need to convince you of their genius-ness by now, but just in case I do, I'll give it a shot.<br />
<ol>
<li>They are jeans. But fancy pants jeans. Need I say more?</li>
<li>They add an instant pop to your outfit. Say you want to wear your favorite basic outfit: jeans and a tee. But you want to step it up a notch? Grab your mint/violet/electric blue/hot-rod pink pair of colored jeans, throw on your basic tee and poof. You're a style goddess. </li>
<li>They go with everything. Yes, everything. Don't believe me? Throw on a chambray. <i>Works. </i>Try animal print. <i>Works. </i>How about color-blocking. <i>Double works. </i>I am telling you, they are the boyfriend blazer of pants. </li>
<li>People stare at you. Ok, so sometimes they are staring because you stick out in the sea of black and navy that is my city, but I choose to believe they are staring because my awesome bootay looks even better mint-colored than it does denim-colored. Yes people, these are the little lies I tell myself, and I feel no shame. </li>
<li>How can you not feel good about the world when your legs are clad in hot pink? I dare you to try and tell me you don't smile more. Go. <i>Go now! </i></li>
</ol>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Oof I need a haircut! I keep putting it off because I don't know what I want to do with it. I know I want to take off quite a bit of length, but I don't know if I can handle going "short" again. I'd really like to play with the color too. <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/123708320984596032/">This</a> is my inspiration but I am not sure if I can pull it off. Thoughts? </td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Yes, I've fallen prey to the obsession with colored denim, along with the rest of the world. My collection now includes pink, red, blue and these (thought they were mint) green beauties. </td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I felt like my color combo was a little fall-y today, but something about it really struck me. as right, so I went with it. I'm all about trusting my instinct these days. My instinct may be leading me to try rocking an old dress of my mother's as a belted navajo-inspired maxi. Now you tell me, should I listen or run far, far away? Also, not sure if you have noticed but I am getting way better with this whole lipstick wearing thing!</td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I've never been much of a jewelry girl, but lately, try and stop me! No, seriously, someone please stop me because I can't seem to control the shopping. Probably doesn't help that I keep going to Lia Sophia parties and wanting EVERYTHING!! (P.S Those things are fun, right??) Anyways, this necklace has been a favorite of mine since I found it nestled in my press bag from an event I went to months ago with <a href="http://www.southmoonunder.com/">South Moon Under</a> and <a href="http://www.spicycandydc.com/">SpicyCandyDC</a>. To say I am smitten is an understatement. It is way more stunning in person, and I always get asked where it is from. </td></tr>

What's on the docket for the weekend? Brunches? Parties? Shopping? Come on, I want the juicy details! I plan on getting some sun, enjoying quality time with brother and roommate and nomming some s'mores. Oh, and doing some major screaming. Did I mention I was heading to an amusement park? For work? Ya, it is a tough life dudettes but someone has to do it. Brother and I are kind of roller coaster freaks, so when I heard there was an opportunity to write a story on historical theme parks, take a road trip to Pittsburgh with friends, ride some rides and camp out, I was in like woah. And when I'm in like woah there is just no stopping me.<br />
<br />
After my lovely little ramble about change, inspiration and personal style yesterday, I felt like I needed a pick me up. I don't know about you ladies, but most of the time I dress to suit my mood. If I feel bright, I'm going to wear my favorite neon pink pumps. If I feel fancy, lace dress here I come. If I feel sick, PJs will be just fine. But when I've got a case of the mean reds ("No the blues are because you're getting fat and maybe it's been raining too long, you're just sad that's all. The men reds are horrible. Suddenly you're afraid and you don't know what you're afraid of."<i>Name that quote. Go.</i>) the only thing that can chase them away is a fantastic outfit. In that case I'm not dressing to suit my mood, but to <i>determine </i>my mood. Big difference, and the latter feels empowering. So yesterday morning I woke up feeling quite uninspired and knew that the only cure would be a hot pink blouse, sequins and killer pumps. And you know what? It worked. I had a productive day at work, a terrific run with roommate and woke up this morning feeling awesome. Don't even try to tell me fashion is silly or pointless. Fashion, as the wise Miranda Priestly once said, "is the art we live our lives in" and that is meaningful. The right outfit on the right day can make a difference, even if it is just changing my outlook for a moment in a day. It matters.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">So remember how yesterday I told you I was into simple, no muss no fuss outfits? Well today I woke up and I wanted flair! I wanted bright and fun. Pink and sequins seemed to do the trick. </td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">So these lovelies are actually my bridesmaid's shoes from roommate's wedding! How awesome is that. I loved them immediately and knew I would wear them all the time after the wedding. </td></tr>

How is everyone feeling on this fine (read: blisteringly hot) August Wednesday? Cool, I hope. I am so ready for my favorite season (fall, of course) to bring a welcome reprieve from this heat. I am just 6 weeks out from my second half-marathon, and I am <i>not even close</i> to ready thanks to my lazy butt not wanting to do anything outside for more than 2 minutes. But tonight I will run. And since everything you read on the internets is true, I must do it! See what I did there? Using the internets to trick myself into being healthier. <i>Win. </i> <br />
<br />
I've been thinking a lot lately about <i>change. </i>For a long time I viewed it as the dirtiest of dirty words, and avoided allowing it into my vocabulary at all costs. I was content with what I had; what I knew. I liked routine and predictability and any hitch in my precious plans could send me into worry-mode overdrive. But now, I find myself yearning for change every day. Don't get me wrong, I love my life. I love where I live, the people I've surrounded myself with and the career path I am doggedly pursuing. But at 24 (not exactly over the hill, I know), I'm not sure I am totally where I want to be. I don't feel particularly settled or accomplished, both feelings I was sure I would have at 24. I've been providing for myself for about a year and a half, which is both amazing and scary depending on which day you catch me, but I don't feel like I have taken many risks. I've stayed close to home, fearing what it would be like to live anywhere besides my beloved DC, and I've always taken the safe path in my career- the steady paycheck. Now, as I find myself applying to jobs in places like New Orleans and San Diego and Boston, I realize that I am ready; ready for the adventures I thought I'd have had by now, and ready to throw myself out of the nest and hope I can fly. I remember when the thought of studying in Paris was terrifying and how I almost didn't go. I was a few tears away from missing out on the best experience of my life, all because of fear of the unknown; fear of being with just myself. I made the right choice, the <i>best </i>choice, four years ago when I got on that plane (even if it was with tear-stained cheeks) and I want to make sure I make that choice again. <br />
<br />
You are probably wondering what business this ramble has on a style blog, but the beauty of it being <i>my </i>style blog is I get to write whatever rambles I want to :) But in actuality, this concept of fearing/embracing change applies to my style, too. Lately I have felt very "unstylish" all because I've been drawn to simple style; outfits that are made up of only one or two pieces and can be thrown together with barely a thought. No layering, no crazy pattern mixing or unexpected pairings. Just a classic pencil skirt and blouse or flattering dress for work, and my go-to mint shorts with a tank for weekend wear. Whether that stems from wanting to be as cool as possible in this miserable heat, my inherent morning laziness or if that is just the direction my style has gone, I honestly can't tell you. But I am determined to embrace it, because I am realizing that <i>personal style</i>, by definition, can't be unstylish because it is <i>my style</i>; my preferences, my tastes and a reflection of my personality.<br />
<br />
And to top this whole thing off, I had an interesting moment a few nights ago. I needed a stand-out outfit and I felt like I had tried on every "fashionable" combo in my closet and all fell short of my expectations. In the end, I wound up in an outfit that I was pleased with, and even got me a few compliments at the party I attended. And what outfit was it? One that was one of the first outfits I ever showcased on this blog, nearly two years ago.So maybe nothing has really changed all that much anyways. <br />

I'm not sure if I've done anything other than talk in circles, but I feel better at least having gotten these thoughts out somewhere other than the jumble that is my brain these days. Thanks for giving me a place to do that. And if any of you have words of wisdom or encouragement about how best to accept change, in all walks of life, I'd love to hear them! <br />

Evening ladies! I hope you've all had a wonderful week and are busy planning your fantabulous weekends. I'm still reveling in the glory of my beach getaway that was pure bliss and haven't been able to pull myself out of the beachy haze just yet to make plans for this weekend. So for now, indulge me a little and let me reminisce. I'll entertain you with a healthy dose of <b>Awkward and Awesome!</b> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Awkward: </b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
- My recent bus rides home have been a wee bit crowded leaving standing room only. I try and remember to wear flats to make balance easier, but my post-beach brain forgot and wore one of my highest pairs on a day the bus was sardines-in-a-can (aka jam packed)! Trying to hold on and balance in 4 inch stilettos as the bus bumps along the hilly roads of upper Georgetown turns a bus ride into a workout. Well, on this particular day I was just plain tired, and not holding on very well when we hit an usually large bump. And what do you think happened? Because it is my <b>awkward </b>life, I toppled right on over into the seat I was standing next to... and right onto a little old man's lap. Yep... that's my life. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
- The fact that I am a blogger who doesn't know how to post Instagram photos to blogger... #embarrassing #firstworldproblems</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
- Discovering on Tuesday morning that I had left my deodorant at the beach. Then discovering it was 90+ degrees that day. And our usually frigid office was unusually hot. Aka I wasn't smelling pine fresh, and since I was meeting friends at the Nats game that night, I was kind of hoping to smell somewhere in the ballpark of decent. To top my stinky self off, there was a cute boy involved in the baseball festivities. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
- Having to admit to you that I wore <a href="http://twitpic.com/aeoany">sneakers with a dress</a> today. Yes, I feel 50 shades of shame. Yes, it was forced upon me. No, I'll never do it again. Phew, I feel better getting that off my chest. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="beach essentials" src="http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j465/Alamodeetplus/beachessentials.jpg" width="200" /><img alt="brother" src="http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j465/Alamodeetplus/brobeaching.jpg" width="200" />
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For me, no beach day is complete without a page-turner, water and plenty of sunscreen. Oh, plus a great beach companion, aka my bff/brother. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="toes in the sand" src="http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j465/Alamodeetplus/toesinsand.jpg" width="200" /><img alt="bikini bod" src="http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j465/Alamodeetplus/bikini.jpg" width="200" />
<br />
<br />
Punchy pedicures and feminine bikinis are definite beach essentials.<br />
<br /></div>
<img alt="driving buddy" src="http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j465/Alamodeetplus/drivingbuddy.jpg" width="200" /><img alt="puppy" src="http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j465/Alamodeetplus/missedthisface.jpg" width="200" />
<br />
<br />
I was quite happy to have a driving-buddy for my six hour drive home after an exhaustingly-fun beach weekend. He was a liiiiitle sleepy though :) But it was all worth it to be home and cuddling with that face!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Awesome: </b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
- Beach weekend with the best people I know. Drinks were shared, laughs were heard and memories were most certainly made. I live for the nights I'll <i>always remember with people I could never forget</i>. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
-Quality time with my bro on our long drive together. We had one of the best conversations we have ever had, and it gave me new insight into his life and feelings about baseball I never knew he had. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
- Frozen yogurt meetings. Seriously, there is no better meeting than one that involves shoveling in spoonfuls of cold, yummy goodness topped with fresh fruit and catching up with old co-workers/friends. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
- Summer nights filled with ballparks, outdoor concerts and <a href="http://alamodeetplus.blogspot.com/2012/08/it-happened-one-night.html">movies on the Mall</a>. Is there anything better than Summer?? </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<i><br /></i></div>
Bisous! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Seriously, this summer is whizzing by. I feel like it was only yesterday that the oppressive heat-wave-that-won't-stop rolled in. Oh wait... <br />
<br />
Last Wednesday I popped over to the National Mall with two of my best friends to chat and catch a flick. I could list a million and one reasons why I love my city with all my heart, but instead I'll just give you four words: Screen on the Green. As one of DC's most beloved summer traditions, movies are projected on a giant screen set up on the Mall. It's completely free and you bring a blanket, food, drinks and great company to enjoy a care-free night. The movies usually start around dusk, and some crazy people show up as early as 5 PM with gourmet feasts and classic games like Cornhole. This summer our choices were Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, It Happened One Night (our pick) From Here to Eternity and the terrified-me-to-ever-take-a-shower-again classic, Psycho (catch it next Monday if you live in the District). If you're a local and have never been, get your bootay there ASAP! You'll feel transported back to nights of summer camp where you had nothing to think about beyond how gooey you were going to make your S'mores later that evening. <br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I promise to never take for granted how blessed I am to live in the city where I can see this majestic building, where my freedom is fought for every day, from almost anywhere I go. How cool!</td></tr>

Sorry for the photo overload, but sometimes you just need to over-document amazing nights, so you can remember every detail in the years to come! And this was definitely one of those no-frills summer nights that for no real explainable reason was perfect and unforgettable. It feels so good to just sit out with friends, not worrying about anything and smile and laugh. So here's to you Summer, for making nights like this possible, and to the company who make the summer nights worth remembering! </div>

Bonsoir babes and happy Hump Day! Oh yes, you can definitely look forward to all kinds of odes to weird holidays up in these here parts. See, did you catch that little ode to the highly under appreciated southern redneck? Well, here's to you, you Natty Light chugging, plump stomach-baring, NASCAR-loving devils you. Claim your moment, and claim it proud.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Wow, sometimes my rambling abilities astound me! How Hump Day turned into appreciation of red necks I will never know. And if you know, kudos. But why don't we go ahead and start talking about what we are really here for in the first place: learning how to maximize the potential of our favorite white lace dress (henceforth known as WLD- yea, I'm trying to make that happen). The WLD is the summer-time equivalent of a LBD, and should be a staple in every girl's closet. It, like its darker sister, has an instantly sexy air, and can look good on everyone when worn properly. Given the right mix, a WLD can be worn as a sexy date night dress, a toned down work-appropriate dress, a classy top to a post-work gathering, a casual skirt for running around town and even an effortlessly chic skirt for girls night out! Keep reading to see what it takes to turn one dress into five stunning outfits. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Date Night</b></div>
</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="date night" src="http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j465/Alamodeetplus/DSC_7302NEF.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="400" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Dress: Urban Outfitters, Shoes: Aldo, Purse: Rebecca Minkoff, Necklace: Forever 21, Watch: Michael Kors, Bangles: Amrita Singh, Ring: Grandmother's</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Summer date nights are why WLDs were created in the first place! So don't over think it- just let the dress stand on its own. Punch it up with your favo<span style="font-size: small;">rite statement shoes, fuchsia lipstick and neon accessories. You can also give the dress a little more pizazz by adding an eye-catching belt or scarf (seen <a href="http://alamodeetplus.blogspot.com/2011/09/learning-from-best-ifb-conference.html">here</a>) to the dress, to create an empire waist style.Oh, and you might want a more attractive hair-do than the post-work/summer-frizz look I was sporting. Unless your dude is strangely attracted to frizz. Then by all means, frizz away. </span>
</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Bright accessories and arm parties are the perfect complement to white dresses. Except unless said white dress is your wedding dress. Then ixnay on the armay partay and stick to the basics. Otherwise, accessorize! </td></tr>

<b>Work

<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="work outfit" src="http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j465/Alamodeetplus/DSC_7312NEF.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="400" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Blazer: Rock & Republic via Kohl's, Flats: Express, Necklace/Ring/Earrings: Gifted<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">I admit I've worn this WLD on its own to work several times, but I always get comments on how "dressed up" I look. So if you want to tone down the "fancy pants" comments stick with the goddess of all work place items: the blazer. But keep it fun and playful with rock-star elements like a bold color blazer, studded lapels and animal print flats. Tone down the date night arm-party jewelry to a classy watch- you'll look more sophisticated. </span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="font-size: medium; margin-bottom: 0.5em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-bottom: 6px; padding-left: 6px; padding-right: 6px; padding-top: 6px; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="font-size: 13px; padding-top: 4px; text-align: center;">My personal philosophy on life is that a blazer makes anything work appropriate. Except jorts. Or mid-drift barring tube tops. Or anything with the word mesh in it. Ok, so maybe a blazer can't make <i>anything </i>work appropro, but it can definitely work for a white lace dress. </td></tr>

</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: center;">
To be honest, I adore this skirt because I always feel like a ballerina when I wear it, particularly when my hair is coiled into a tight bun. And I, like all little girls on the planet, wanted nothing more than to be a pretty, twirling ballerina from the ages of 3 to 4. Yea, it only lasted until I discovered I sucked at ballet and was much better at sports that didn't require nearly as much grace. Like softball and swimming. Once again, I ramble. But the beauty of a midi-skirt is the instant class and femininity it adds to any ensemble. Paired over a sexy WLD your outfit becomes a classic and sophisticated combination. Just remember to belt it and try to avoid the unfortunate bunching I have going on in these photos. Top it off with a statement necklace that adds color and your highest heels, if you are, like me, on the shorter side and don't want to appear stumpy wearing a midi-skirt. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

We have all inevitably had the dreaded moment of running into the person you least want to see when you are running errands and look less than your best. Avoid that embarrassment by dressing down a piece you know looks killer on you (aka your WLD) by adding a knotted chambray top. Or for the cooler fall months, pair the dress with your favorite jean jacket or military jacket (seen <a href="http://alamodeetplus.blogspot.com/2011/04/nuggets-galore.html">here</a>)for a relaxed casual, look. <br />

<span style="font-size: small;">There are two very different Girls' Night Out occasions. You have girls night out at a bar/club, in which you want to look sexy, and girls night out at a friend's house playing games, watching movies and enjoying a glass of wine. For the latter, you want to look effortlessly chic and adorable, and for that look nothing works better than a fun blouse (say animal print?) belted over your WLD. I definitely should have added a simple necklace to this outfit, but hey I was tired of changing a million times at this point so cut me some slack why don't ya :)</span><br />

<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="lace dress" src="http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j465/Alamodeetplus/DSC_7343NEF.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="400" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I had actually never tried this outfit combo before, and was hesitant at first. I tried it without a belt (silly me) and it looked frumpy. But with the miracle power of a belt, my shape was back and it was instantly transformed into a casual, but hip, outfit. Oh, and Eli says HI!! He missed you all as much as I did!</td></tr>
